SENATOBIA - Northwest took several large leads in the early stages of each set on Friday afternoon, earning a pair of 3-0 victories against Coastal Alabama-South and Shawnee in the Lady Rangers' first home matches since August 26.
Coach
Allison Burchyett's squad moved to 11-6 on the season with the wins, as Northwest extended its winning streak to seven matches.
Next up for Northwest is a pair of home conference matches, starting with a showdown against Pearl River on Monday, September 23 at 5 P.M. The Lady Wildcats are currently 4-12 on the season, but lead the all-time series against the Lady Rangers by a 12-3 margin.
First serve is scheduled for 5 P.M. on Monday evening, with live broadcast coverage on Ranger TV.
Northwest 3, Coastal Alabama-South 0
(Set scores: 25-17, 25-18, 25-23)
Northwest wasted little time capturing the momentum in its match against Coastal Alabama-South. The Lady Rangers led 10-3 in the early stages of the first set and 7-1 in the second set, gaining a 2-0 match lead.
Although the third set proved to be much closer, the Lady Rangers broke free from a 13-13 tie to push ahead, 16-13. The Lady Coyotes would remain in striking distance down the stretch, but Northwest managed to hang on and post the shutout victory.
Sophomores
Kaya Coleman and
Anna Lott led the Lady Rangers with 10 kills apiece, followed closely with nine from
Rachel Stegall.
Layla Dyer also posted 35 assists, while adding 11 digs.
Stegall led Northwest with 13 total digs and three service aces. Coleman was credited with five total blocks, followed by four from
Maddie Smith, while
Sailor Cole finished with 10 digs.
Sarah Alleman led Coastal Alabama-South with nine kills and 14 assists, while Sophie Sanchez led the team with 13 digs. Jennifer Shipman was the Lady Coyotes' leader in total blocks, finishing with three.
Northwest 3, Shawnee 0

It didn't take long for Northwest to run away with the opening set, setting the tone for a 3-0 shutout against Shawnee.
Despite the blowout in the first set, Shawnee did respond well initially in the second set, trading blows with the Lady Rangers. After a 9-9 tie between the two teams, Northwest turned up the tempo down the stretch, cruising to the 25-14 set win and a 2-0 match lead.
Shawnee once again fell behind early in the third set, allowing Northwest to pull away and claim its third straight shutout win in two days.
Freshman
Aven Mathis led the Lady Rangers with nine kills, followed by six from Lott and five from Smith.
Abbey Swift led Northwest in digs (15) and service aces (2), while Dyer led with 23 assists.
Claire Roberts had four blocks to lead the Lady Rangers, followed by two from Stegall, who also finished with a pair of service aces. Sophomore
Ally Grimes also came away with 10 digs and five assists.
