ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - After dropping the opening set of Monday afternoon's match at Henderson State JV, Northwest answered back to take the next three sets, leaving with a 3-1 victory.
Northwest fell by a close 25-22 margin in the first set, but the Lady Rangers pushed back and picked up a massive 25-11 margin in the second set. With the match tied at 1-1, Northwest claimed the third set, 25-19, and clinched the win with a 25-17 decision in the fourth set.
Rachel Stegall and
Kaya Coleman combined for 22 kills in the match, with Stegall earning 12 of her own. Freshman
Aven Mathis collected five service aces, while
Layla Dyer finished with 44 of the team's 49 assists.Â
Defensively, Dyer also led the Lady Rangers with 18 digs, followed by 12 from
Ally Grimes and 10 from
Abbey Swift. Coleman posted a team-high seven blocks, while Dyer and Mathis earned two apiece.
Now winners of four straight matches, Northwest is now 8-6 on the season. The Lady Rangers are slated to finish up their long road trip on Thursday, September 19 at Freed-Hardeman JV.Â
