Lady Rangers Remain No. 1 As Conference Play Begins

Northwest to face No. 2 Jones College on Tuesday evening

CHARLOTTE - With MACCC competition scheduled to begin on Tuesday, the Northwest women's soccer team remains No. 1 in the latest NJCAA Division II Women's Soccer Rankings, released on Monday afternoon.

Northwest picked up a pair of 3-1 and 3-0 victories against Southwestern Illinois College and No. 13 St. Louis last week, improving the Lady Rangers' record to 5-0 on the season. Coach James Beattie's squad currently owns three wins against ranked programs, after previously earning victories against then-No. 7 Heartland and No. 6 Northeast (Neb.).

Conference play will start off with a bang on Tuesday evening, as Northwest travels to Jones College, which has held on to its No. 2 ranking since the preseason polls in August. The Lady Bobcats (3-0) are the defending NJCAA champions and lead the all-time series against the Lady Rangers, 4-3-1.

Meanwhile, Johnson County (Kan.), Phoenix College and Heartland round out this week's top five. Other MACCC programs ranked include Holmes, which remains at No. 7 from last week's poll, and Pearl River, which slid from No. 8 to No. 11.

Additionally, Mississippi Gulf Coast remains unranked, but the Lady Bulldogs continue to receive votes.
