TYLER, Texas - On the eve of opening day in the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship, the full draw for singles and doubles competition has been announced.
Unlike the dual-match format the MACCC uses throughout the regular season, this tournament consists of six singles and three doubles brackets. Teams pile up points for winning matches, earning two points for the first win in the championship draw, and one in the backdraw. Beyond that, it's one point and a half-point, respectively.
In flight one of singles competition, sophomore
Holly Stewart is slated to face Katrina Neufeld of McHenry County College. The winner of that match will advance to face the victor of Camilla Angioni (Jacksonville College) and Sophia Baillos (Marion Military Institute) on Sunday at 8 A.M.
Freshman
Mattie Sanders will compete in flight two, battling against Julianne Legg of Coastal Alabama. The winner of that match will advance to the next round on Sunday at 8 A.M., taking on Candy Wai of Tyler Junior College, who received a first-round bye.
In flight three, freshman
Kendall Moody will battle Alla Antonyan of Lewis & Clark Community College. The winner of that match advances to face the winner of Allyson English (Moraine Valley Community College) and Ana Isabela Serrano (Seward County Community College), scheduled for Sunday at 9:15 A.M.
Sophomore
Grace Ann Wade will compete in flight four against Im Garba of Iowa Central Community College. The winner of that match will advance to face the winner of Taylor Wasson (Mesa Community College) and Molly Bennett (Jones College) on Sunday at 9:15 A.M.
In flight five, freshman
Allie Rawles is slated to face Sara Ladino of Eastern Florida State College. The winner of that match will square off with Ai Katsua on Sunday at 10:30 A.M. Katsua, of St. Petersburg College, received a first-round bye.
Sophomore
Raney Peacock is lined up in flight six, scheduled to face Journey Barajas of Mesa Community College. The winner of that match will face Mariana Jimenez of Cowley College on Sunday at 10:30 A.M. Jimenez received a first-round bye.
There will also be three doubles flights, and Northwest is represented in each draw as well. The No. 1 duo of Moody and Rawles will face the Seward County tandem of Polya Nikolova and Emma Petton on Saturday at 1 P.M. Nikolova and Petton are currently ranked No. 5 in the nation in the latest round of ITA JUCO Doubles Rankings, released April 18.
In flight two of doubles, Sanders and Wade will face another Seward County duo of Serrano and Alejandra Ramirez at 1 P.M. on Saturday. Meanwhile, the No. 3 tandem of Peacock and Stewart received a bye in the opening round and will face the Copiah-Lincoln duo of Adyson Parks and Ann-Clark Van on Sunday at 1 P.M.
