ELLISVILLE - No. 21 Northwest had a short stay in this year's NJCAA Region 23 Tournament, as the Lady Rangers fell 5-1 to 14th-ranked Meridian in Thursday's opening match.
Northwest collected its only victory at No. 2 doubles, as the duo of
Mattie Sanders and
Grace Ann Wade took an 8-6 victory against Meridian's tandem of Cayden Alexander and Cheludo Monnayoo. The Lady Rangers' duo of
Raney Peacock and
Holly Stewart dropped an 8-3 decision at No. 3 doubles to MCC's
Amelia Anding and Lilly Hollingsworth, while
Kendall Moody and
Allie Rawles fell at No. 1 doubles, 8-0.
Meridian took victories at the first three singles courts, clinching the match and stopping play. However, Rawles had a 3-0 lead in the second set of her match at No. 5 singles against Cali Grace Davis when play was halted.
With the loss, Northwest fell to 7-7 on the season. The Lady Rangers will now await a potential at-large bid into the NJCAA Division I National Tournament, which will be announced later this month.
