Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Saturday was a solid day for the Northwest women's tennis teams, as the Lady Rangers picked up a pair of 8-1 victories against Central Alabama and host Huntingdon College.

Northwest also competed well in men's play, but the Rangers fell 6-3 to Gadsden State and 8-1 to Huntingdon in the nightcap.

After posting a clean doubles sweep in both matches, the Lady Rangers continued their domination in singles competition. Freshmen Mattie Sanders and Kendall Moody collected strong wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles slots, while Allie Rawles did the same at the No. 5 singles position. Meanwhile, sophomore Raney Peacock improved her season record to 2-0 in singles, after earning a shutout at the No. 6 slot against Central Alabama's Emma Whaley.

Grace Ann Wade also won both of her singles matches, while Rivers Tarsi picked up a win by default in the No. 6 slot in the match against Huntingdon College.

Freshman Joshua Tedford was the biggest highlight for the Ranger men, as the freshman from Columbus picked up a pair of wins at the No. 1 singles position. Tedford also collected a doubles victory against Gadsden State, with partner Gabriel Koonce helping pick up an 8-5 win against the duo of Chase McIntire and Kamron Palacios.

Additionally, Spencer Rios earned a hard-fought singles win in the No. 3 slot against McIntire, notching his first collegiate victory.

Despite the 8-1 loss in the nightcap to Huntingdon College, the Rangers battled through several close matches. Northwest fell shy of earning a pair of doubles wins at No. 1 and No. 2, while Koonce nearly defeated Owen Wheelock in No. 2 singles.

With the women's sweep, the Lady Rangers improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Northwest men currently sit at 0-3 overall. Conference play begins for both teams on Tuesday, February 13 at Meridian, with first serve scheduled for 1 P.M.
