Lady Rangers Claim Second Consecutive Conference Win

Northwest men shutout; fall to 0-3 in MACCC play

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SENATOBIA - Playing in front of the home crowd for the first time this season, the Northwest tennis teams hosted East Central for another pivotal conference match on Friday afternoon.

For the second straight match, the Lady Rangers earned a narrow 5-4 victory against the Lady Warriors, while the Northwest men were shutout by a 9-0 final.

Northwest took four of the six singles matches, highlighted by a comeback effort from sophomore Grace Ann Wade on court four. Wade dropped the first set, 6-2, but rallied back to take the final two sets by identical 6-2 decisions.

Freshman Mattie Sanders also earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles against East Central's Brenah Flint, while Allie Rawles and Raney Peacock garnered wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

East Central took two of the three doubles matches, but the freshman duo of Rawles and Kendall Moody took an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles against the Lady Warriors' tandem of Flint and Katelyn Wall.

In men's competition, freshman Gabriel Koonce battled in a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Maximo Estrada on court two, while Spencer Rios also fell by an identical result to Tate Baucum at No. 3 singles. The Warriors also took all three doubles matches, but Koonce and Joshua Tedford battled in a close 8-5 loss to Cade Cooley and Batuhan Saban.

Northwest improved to 5-2 in women's competition, jumping to 2-1 in the MACCC. The Ranger men fell to 0-7 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.

Northwest will resume competition on Tuesday, February 27 at Copiah-Lincoln. Matches are expected to begin at 2 P.M. from Wesson.
