Northwest Suffers Home Loss to Hinds

SENATOBIA - Nolan Wells and Thomas Tangle provided a pair of double-digit scoring efforts for Northwest, but the Rangers fell 56-51 at the hands of Hinds on Thursday evening.

Wells provided 12 points, good for his sixth game with 10 or more points, while Tangle reached double figures for the third straight game. The Rangers dropped to 8-15 on the season and 4-7 in the MACCC, while Hinds moved to 10-16 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

Hinds opened the game with a steal and breakaway dunk by Marquis Willis, but Northwest responded with a three-pointer from Wells and a layup from Tangle, giving the Rangers a 5-2 advantage.

Keanu Patrick made it a 7-2 lead for Northwest at the 15:11 mark of the first half, but that would end up being the Rangers' largest lead of the game. Joshua Lemon would eventually help Hinds regain a 10-9 lead with a dunk, and the Bulldogs would push the lead to 27-20 by the end of the half.

Tangle's dunk at the 17:34 mark of the second half helped the Rangers pull back within three, and Patrick's jumper and free throw would give the lead back to Northwest, 32-31, with 15:17 remaining.

Wells and Jordan Ealey hit a string of free throws to keep Northwest ahead, but Jakobe Singleton's layup allowed Hinds to regain a 37-36 lead with 12:23 left. From there, both teams played tug-of-war throughout the rest of regulation, but the Bulldogs pulled ahead by three, 51-48, with 1:32 remaining.

Tangle's two free throws brought Northwest back within one, but a layup from Lemon made it a 53-50 lead for Hinds with 32 seconds left. DeShun Dunn hit a free throw to cut the lead down to two, but Kobe Jones' dunk put the Bulldogs up by four with 23 seconds left.

Northwest missed a three-pointer with 12 seconds to go and the Rangers were forced to foul on the other end of the floor with four seconds left. Singleton hit the game-winning free throw for the Bulldogs, clinching the win for Hinds.

Hinds shot 37 percent from the floor, while Northwest was limited to just 29 percent shooting. The Rangers were also limited to 10 percent from beyond the arc, while the Bulldogs outscored Northwest 32-18 in the paint.

Shah Hall also posted a team-high 10 rebounds and four blocks, while Ealey scored eight points with eight rebounds.

Three Hinds players reached double figures, led by 13 points from Lemon and 12 points from Jones, who also provided the Bulldogs with eight rebounds. Williams added 10 points for the Bulldogs, while Singleton finished with a team-high nine rebounds.

Next up for Northwest will be a road test at Itawamba on Monday, February 26. The Indians (19-6, 5-5 MACCC) are coming off an 89-74 loss at Mississippi Gulf Coast on Thursday.
