Box Score FULTON - Led by a career-high 22 points from
Shavurdacour Nicholas, five Northwest players reached double figures despite Monday evening's 93-85 loss at Itawamba.
With the loss, the Rangers fell to 8-16 overall and 4-8 in conference play, while Itawamba jumped to 20-6 on the season and 6-5 in the MACCC.
Northwest and ICC went back and forth for the entire game, with the Indians holding a slim 44-43 lead at halftime. The Rangers trailed by nine with 10 minutes left in regulation, but Northwest never quit, remaining in striking distance until Itawamba pulled away down the stretch.
Both teams shot well over 50 percent, with Northwest finishing 57 percent from the floor and Itawamba going 53 percent. The Rangers hit 55 percent of their three-point shots, compared to just 42 percent from the Indians, and both teams were between 75-80 percent from the free throw line.
Behind the 22-point effort from Nicholas, Northwest got 16 points from
Shah Hall, followed by 15 points from
DeShun Dunn.
Nolan Wells and
Thomas Tangle also added 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Tangle and
Jordan Ealey led the Rangers with five rebounds apiece.
Bryson Dawkins led Itawamba with 23 points, followed by 15 points from Dre Graham and 14 from A.J. Dent.
Northwest will now turn to Thursday, February 29, as the Rangers will host Meridian for Sophomore Night and the regular season home finale. The Eagles (13-11, 5-6 MACCC) have lost each of their last two games, including their most recent 80-69 loss to Mississippi Gulf Coast on Monday.
