Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MERIDIAN - The start of the MACCC season did not get off to a favorable start for the Northwest tennis programs on Tuesday, as the Rangers and Lady Rangers were swept in a pair of 9-0 losses.

For the Lady Rangers, the closest match came at No. 2 doubles, where the tandem of Mattie Sanders and Grace Ann Wade dropped a close 9-8 decision to Meridian's Cheludo Monnayoo and Ruthie Storment. (Sanders and Wade fell 7-3 in the tiebreaker.)

In singles play, Raney Peacock and Allie Rawles put up the closest fights on courts five and six, with Peacock falling 6-1, 6-2 on No. 6 to Lilly Hollingsworth. Rawles dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision on No. 5 to Cali Grace Davis.

Gunner Pitt put up a solid effort on court six for the Northwest men, falling to Meridian's Isaac James by a 6-4, 6-1 margin. Joshua Tedford also battled at No. 1 singles with Loic Hiss, but dropped a 6-2, 6-0 margin.

With the losses, the Northwest Lady Rangers fell to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the MACCC, while the Ranger men dropped to 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Northwest will seek a bounceback in the win column on Tuesday, February 20 at Hinds.
