GOODMAN - Northwest overcame a large deficit to Holmes late in the second half, but the Rangers were unable to escape with the victory, falling 86-74 on Thursday evening.
Northwest had four players finish in double figures, including a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double by
Dorian Booker. The Rangers dropped to 1-2 on the season with the loss.
Both teams went back-and-forth over the early stages of the first half, until Holmes closed out the half on a 30-14 run to take a 49-36 halftime lead. The Bulldogs held on to a 69-55 advantage midway through the second half, only for Northwest to make things closer down the stretch.
Colain Brown and
Caleb Hunt added 11 points apiece for the Rangers, while Cameron Wallace led Holmes with 28 points and eight rebounds. Three other Bulldogs scored in double figures, including an 18-point effort from K.J. Sykes and 12 points each from Christian Parks and Trey Smith.
Northwest shot 48 percent from the floor, while Holmes finished with a 54 percent clip. The Rangers outscored the Bulldogs off the bench, 22-10, but Holmes outmatched Northwest 28-16 in points off turnovers.
Northwest will return to action on Thursday, November 14 against Coahoma, the Rangers' home-opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 P.M. with live broadcast coverage on
