WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. - After dropping a double overtime heart-breaker to open the season, the Northwest men's basketball team turned around and earned a 77-57 victory against Arkansas State Mid-South, concluding the ASU Mid-South Greyhound Classic.
Northwest battled through a 108-107 loss to 16th-ranked National Park College prior to the win against ASU Mid-South, moving to a 1-1 start.
Against National Park College, the Rangers fell behind 47-43 at halftime, only for Northwest to battle back to force overtime. The two teams continued to duke it out in the initial overtime and eventually double overtime was forced, marking the first double overtime game played by Northwest since February 17, 2022 (W, 99-92 at Copiah-Lincoln).
Four Rangers reached double figures, with two players finishing with double-doubles.
Shavurdacour Nicholas led the way with 28 points, while
Dorian Booker collected 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Keanu Patrick also netted 19 points and 13 rebounds, with
Caleb Hunt rounding out the notable scoring with 13 points.
Additionally,
Tyler Spears came away with nine points off the bench and
Colain Brown finished with eight points.
National Park College was led by six scorers in double figures, led by 31 points from Shamir Caruthers. Brody Emberton contributed 20 points, followed by 13 points from Addison Shelton.Â
Daniel Smith finished with a double-double for the Nighthawks, scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. Joseph Washington nearly added a double-double as well, scoring 11 points and nine rebounds.
Against ASU Mid-South, the Rangers ran away with a 44-27 lead in the first half and stayed well ahead of the Greyhounds throughout the second half.
Northwest had four players reach double figures, led by 21 points from Nicholas and an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double from Booker. Brown also contributed 14 points, followed by 12 points from
Ja'Quise Richmond.
Davonta Tucker led the Greyhounds with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Braylon Frazier tacked on nine points.
Northwest now turns its attention to a non-conference matchup with Holmes on Thursday, November 7 in Goodman. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 P.M.
