Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEW ALBANY - Sophomore Raney Peacock prevented a shutout loss for the Northwest Lady Rangers, earning a victory at the No. 6 singles position in Tuesday's 8-1 loss to Blue Mountain Christian.

Northwest also fell 9-0 in men's tennis competition to BMCU, sending the Rangers and Lady Rangers to 0-1 team records to start the season.

Peacock, a native of French Camp, scored a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Natalie Nyberg, preventing the Lady Toppers from picking up the shutout. The win marked her fifth career victory at Northwest, after she earned four singles wins last season.

Although the No. 6 singles win was the only one of the match, it was not the only close match for the Lady Rangers. Freshman Kendall Moody had a solid showing at No. 3 singles, taking Kiara MacKay to a close first set, before dropping the match by a 6-4, 6-1 decision. Grace Ann Wade also posted a 6-1, 6-2 loss at No. 2 singles to Carlota Gascon-Martinez.

Northwest dropped all three doubles matches, but not without putting up a strong effort. The No. 1 duo of Wade and Mattie Sanders took Gascon-Martinez and Juliana Madrid to an 8-5 decision, while the No. 3 duo of Allie Rawles and Rivers Tarsi dropped a close 8-4 effort to MacKay/Nyberg.

Northwest will be back in action this weekend, facing a slew of competition in Montgomery, Ala. on Saturday. The Lady Rangers will take on Central Alabama at 1 P.M. and the men's team is scheduled to face Gadsden State at 1 P.M., before both teams face host Huntingdon College at 4 P.M.
