SENATOBIA - Three second half goals helped No. 3 Northwest create separation in Friday's 5-0 victory against Southwest Mississippi.
Two of the Lady Rangers' five goals came off the foot of freshman
Emma Earwood, including the first goal of the match. With the win, Northwest moved to 3-0 in the MACCC and 10-0 overall, marking the program's all-time best start. Additionally, the Lady Rangers also stretched their all-time series lead to 13-4 against Southwest Mississippi, which fell to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Scoreless through the first 10 minutes, Earwood delivered the first goal of the match and her fourth one of the season.
Raylin Dixon provided the assist.
To its credit, Southwest Mississippi kept Northwest off the board for the next 30 minutes, weathering an offensive fury from the Lady Rangers. Just before halftime however,
Hudson Lindsay gave Northwest some added momentum with a goal in the 44th minute, extending the lead to 2-0.
Although the score would remain in tact for the next 20 minutes and change, Northwest finally began to put the match away in the 68th minute, when
Evie Crawford connected with
Mari Julia Delgado to run the lead to 3-0.
Northwest added two goals for good measure in the final 10 minutes, including a header from
Raegan Tucker, assisted by
Mia Kate Cade's corner kick. In the 89th minute, Cade again provided an assist to Earwood, capping off the scoring.
In all, Northwest out-shot Southwest Mississippi 42-2, including 22-2 on-goal. The Lady Rangers also finished with 22 corner kicks in the match, with the Lady Bears ending with zero.
Next up for Northwest is a home battle with Mississippi Gulf Coast, scheduled for Tuesday, September 26. The Lady Bulldogs (5-2-1, 1-1-1 MACCC) are coming off a 4-1 victory against Meridian on Friday.
Tuesday's match is slated for 1 P.M. with live coverage available on
