Box Score MERIDIAN - A scoreless match through the first 30 minutes quickly turned into a scoring clinic by Northwest, as the third-ranked Lady Rangers routed Meridian by a 10-0 final on Friday afternoon.
Northwest led 3-0 at halftime, before tacking on a whopping seven goals to put the match away quickly into the second half. The win helped the Lady Rangers improve to 8-0 overall and 1-0 in the MACCC, as Meridian dropped to 5-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
After a four-goal effort earlier in the week against National Park College, sophomore
Jadyn Duran made her presence felt early, adding the first two goals for Northwest. Her shot in the 30th minute came off an assist from
Mari Julia Delgado, breaking the scoreless drought. Eight minutes later, Duran took in her sixth goal of the season off a feed from
Hudson Lindsay, pushing the lead to 2-0.
Just before halftime, Alexandria "Penny" Warner gave Northwest some added momentum, as the Pearland, Texas native scored off an assist from
Evie Crawford. The score gave the Lady Rangers the three-goal lead into the break.
Northwest wasted little time carrying over the scoring surge into the second half, as
Mia Kate Cade connected with
Jada Jelks in the 47th minute. Just a few minutes later,
Emma Earwood knocked in back-to-back goals off an assist from Jelks and a double assist from Cade and
Raylin Dixon, making it a 6-0 lead.
However, the scoring was far from finished. Lindsay got in on the action with a goal of her own, thanks to an assist from Duran. Warner would add another goal a couple minutes later, with Duran once again providing the assist, pushing Northwest to an 8-0 advantage.
Warner would finish out the hat trick with one more goal, thanks to Crawford's assist. Delgado also scored in the final minutes, with Crawford once again providing the assist.
In all, Warner totaled three goals, with two from Duran and Earwood. Crawford led with three assists, followed by two apiece from Cade and Duran.
For Northwest, the win marked the largest margin of victory ever recorded against Meridian and the largest conference win since a 16-0 decision against Southwest Mississippi on September 26, 2006. The Lady Rangers also moved to 9-8-2 in the all-time series against the Lady Eagles.
Northwest will continue MACCC play on Tuesday, September 19 at Itawamba. First kick is scheduled for 2 P.M. in Fulton, with a live broadcast available on
