Lady Rangers Blanked at Pearl River

POPLARVILLE - One week after edging Pearl River in a 3-2 thriller, Northwest fell victim to a little revenge from the Lady Wildcats, as the Lady Rangers dropped a 3-0 loss on Monday evening.

Northwest fell to 21-16 on the season and 4-1 in Region 23, while Pearl River improved to 14-12 and 4-1 in region play. The loss also snapped a six-match winning streak for the Lady Rangers.

Pearl River took an early 5-3 advantage and quickly built the lead to 12-4 midway through the opening set. The Lady Rangers were never able to capture the momentum in the first set, falling by a 25-10 decision.

Although the remaining two sets were much closer, Pearl River still used the support of a raucous home crowd to stay a step ahead of Northwest. The Lady Rangers led 5-2 early in the second set, only for the Lady Wildcats to go on a run and regain an 11-7 advantage.

Pearl River built its lead to 16-11 and eventually pulled away for a 25-22 decision, earning a 2-0 match lead. Once again, Northwest grabbed the lead early in the third set, only for the Lady Wildcats to come back and earn the 25-22 clincher.

Jacia Hayes led Northwest with eight kills, followed by six kills and a team-high 11 digs from Kaley Rikard. Caroline Howard also posted nine digs, while Cristen Cleveland added eight and a team-best four service aces.

Northwest will close out region competition on Friday, October 13 at Itawamba. The rematch with the Lady Indians is slated for 2 P.M., followed by a neutral-site match against Pellissippi State at 4 P.M. Both matches will be carried on letsgoicctv.com.
