SENATOBIA - Five of Mississippi Delta's seven players reached double figures, but it was Northwest earning the most important accomplishment in the Rangers' 85-83 win on Tuesday evening.
Northwest led 43-34 at halftime and withstood a 49-point second half from the Trojans, improving to 3-10 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Mississippi Delta dropped to 4-11 on the season and 1-3 against MACCC competition.
Both teams finished near even in total shooting percentage at 46 percent, with
Joseph Cooper's 22-point effort leading Northwest. The sophomore from Olive Branch also posted a team-best five assists with four rebounds and four steals.
Additionally,
Jaylon Sanders netted 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, while
Jayvian Shaw came off the bench to add 13 points and five rebounds.
Jordan Ealey also contributed nine points and six boards.
Jequann Roberson tallied a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double for Mississippi Delta, while Jeremiah Foster scored a team-high 18 points with five rebounds. Latrell Vance also added 16 points, followed by 13 from LaJames Duckworth and 12 from Jordan Jennings.
Northwest will now set its sights on Northeast, a matchup slated for 6 P.M. in Booneville on Thursday. Though the Tigers recently tumbled out of the national rankings, Northeast remains a dangerous team for everyone in the MACCC, entering with an 11-5 overall record and a 2-2 mark in conference play.
