Rangers Drop Road Loss to Northeast

BOONEVILLE - Seven Northeast players reached double figures and the Tigers scored 66 first half points, as Northwest fell 109-73 in Thursday night's conference road contest.

Northwest dropped to 4-10 on the season and 2-3 in the MACCC, while Northeast improved to 12-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Northwest trailed 36-18 midway through the first half, but the Rangers fell victim to a 30-7 scoring run from Northeast over the next 10 minutes. As a result, the Tigers blew the game wide open with a 66-25 halftime lead.

Although Northwest outscored the Tigers 48-43 over the course of the second half, it did little to soften the damage from Northeast, which shot 59 percent from the floor and 47 percent from three-point range. In comparison, the Rangers were held to 38 percent shooting and just 29 percent from beyond the arc.

Northeast outmatched the Rangers in transition, 41-14, while also scoring 32 points off turnovers and 46 points off the bench.

Sophomore guard Jaylon Sanders led Northwest with 14 points, while Jordan Johnson and Marquavous Jones added 11 points apiece. Devin Moore led the Rangers in total rebounds, securing six boards, followed four each from Johnson and Joseph Cooper.

Jalin Rice provided 20 points to lead all Northeast scorers, while Keithean Brooks and Trey Tate added 16 points each. Corey Stephenson also chipped in 15 points for the Tigers, while Anthony Johnson earned a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Northwest will return to the home floor on Monday, January 23, hosting Pearl River at 6 P.M. The Wildcats (11-4, 3-2 MACCC) are coming off a 60-49 victory against Mississippi Gulf Coast, which snapped a two-game losing streak.
