Lady Rangers Soccer Inches Up to No. 9 in NJCAA Rankings

Highest ranking ever for Northwest women's soccer

CHARLOTTE - After a 1-0-1 week that included a tie and a win against ranked opponents East Central and Pearl River, the Northwest women's soccer program shattered another milestone on Monday, moving up to No. 9 in the NJCAA Division II rankings.

It's the highest ranking ever for the Lady Rangers and the first movement in the polls since moving into the previous No. 10 slot earlier this month. Currently, Northwest sports a record of 5-1-1 on the season, following a close 1-0 loss to Jones College, a 1-1 draw at East Central and a 2-0 victory against Pearl River, all three being matches against nationally-ranked opponents.

Holmes remains the highest-ranked MACCC squad, checking in at No. 4 this week, one slot ahead of fifth-ranked Jones College. The Lady Rangers will take on Holmes later this week, concluding a stretch that featured four nationally-ranked opponents in five matches.

Pearl River and East Central also moved up a spot each, with the Lady Wildcats jumping from 16th to 15th and the Lady Warriors advancing from No. 17 to No. 16. Phoenix College, Heartland (Ill.) and Pima (Ariz.) remain in the top three spots, respectively.

Northwest will host Hinds tomorrow at 1 P.M. for another MACCC showdown. The Lady Eagles (1-5, 1-2 MACCC) are coming off two straight losses at Copiah-Lincoln (3-2) and Holmes (7-0). The match will be carried on Ranger TV (nwccrangers.com/watch) and Facebook Live.
