Lady Rangers Pick Up Shutout Against Dyersburg State

Northwest has outscored opponents 29-0 in first three matches

COVINGTON, Tenn. - An early goal scored in the first 25 seconds of the match set the tone for another shutout victory on Wednesday afternoon, as the No. 12 Northwest Lady Rangers scored an 8-0 win at Dyersburg State.

With the win, Northwest improved to 3-0 on the season and once again held its opponent scoreless. The Lady Rangers have now outscored their first three opponents by a 29-0 margin.

Freshman Mia Kate Cade got things going quickly for Northwest, as the Starkville Academy product knocked in a goal off an assist from Katie Archer. The Lady Rangers would be held scoreless for the next 25 minutes, but yielded very few shot attempts to the Lady Eagles.

Caroline King broke the drought in the 27th minute, helping the Lady Rangers stretch the advantage to 2-0. In the 38th minute, Northwest really pulled away from the competition, adding a pair of back-to-back goals from Jadyn Duran and Dani Rodriguez. Duran would follow with another goal just seconds before the end of the first half, pushing the lead to 5-0.

In the 58th minute, Addison Vargas connected with Hadleigh Watson to start the scoring in the second half. In the 70th minute, Grace Sanders helped tack on to the total, scoring off a feed from Archer and widening the gap to 7-0.

Northwest would deliver one final parting shot in the waning minutes of the match, as sophomore Melinda Hernandez tapped in a shot from Evie Crawford, putting the wraps on another dominant effort.

Once again, the Lady Rangers were aggressive on offense, finishing with 30 of their 45 total shots on-goal. Dyersburg State was limited to just five in the match, with three occurring on-goal.

Both teams finished deadlocked in the fouls category with nine apiece, while Northwest completed a 9-4 edge on corner kicks.

Northwest will now turn its attention to Saturday, September 3, as the Lady Rangers will host Mineral Area College. The Lady Cardinals come into the match unranked after starting the season at 17th in the NJCAA Division II rankings.

Saturday's match will be held at the Senatobia Sports Park and will include broadcast and live stats coverage.
