JACKSON - Following a strong week at the plate, Northwest infielder
McKaylee Polk has been selected as the MACCC Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Polk, a freshman from Senatobia, helped the Rangers to a 3-1 week after finishing 7-of-13 at the plate (.538 batting average), hammering five home runs and 10 RBIs. Two of her home runs came in a Game 2 victory at Holmes last Tuesday, helping Northwest come away with a road split.
Her strong performance in the Rangers' sweep against East Central only continued what has been a red-hot streak for Polk, as she has hit at least one home run in six of her last seven games. The Senatobia High School alumnus is batting .426 on the season, leading the team in hits (49), doubles (17), home runs (12) and slugging percentage (.904).
Additionally, Polk's 12 home runs are already tied for second-most in the career record books, joining teammate
Kaitlyn Bednarek (12) and trailing only fellow teammate
Saige Koczka (25). She is also currently tied for second in the conference for total home runs, trailing only Lauren Lindsey (Jones College; 13 HR).
Polk's recognition is the first MACCC Player of the Week honor for the Northwest softball program. The Rangers are 25-9 on the season and 15-7 against conference competition.
Northwest will host Mississippi Delta on Wednesday, April 20 for Sophomore Day and the home finale. The doubleheader is set for 1/3 P.M. with coverage of both games on
Ranger TV and Facebook Live.
