SENATOBIA - A pair of disastrous seventh innings plagued No. 9 Northwest in a pair of 14-11 and 9-6 losses to fifth-ranked Itawamba on Thursday afternoon.
Northwest led for the majority of both contests, only for the Indians to score six runs in the seventh inning of Game 1 and nine unanswered in the seventh inning of the nightcap to steal a sweep from the Rangers.
On a positive note, the Rangers hit well at the plate in both games, as the two teams combined for 50 base hits on the day. Northwest outmatched ICC 16-12 at the plate in Game 1 and the two teams finished with an even 11 in the second contest.
Saige Koczka and
Kaitlyn Bednarek finished with three hits apiece in the opener, with Bednarek earning a double. The sophomore from DeSoto Central also went 3-for-4 in Game 2 to lead the Rangers at the plate.
Northwest will resume play on Saturday, March 19 at #20 Mississippi Gulf Coast. Start times are set for 2/4 P.M. from Perkinston.
