WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. - Joseph Cooper's 18 points led four Northwest players in double figures, but the Rangers' efforts were not enough to avoid a 98-86 loss at ASU Mid-South on Saturday afternoon.
Northwest trailed 42-37 at halftime and were outscored 56-49 the rest of the way, falling to 1-2 on the season. With the victory, the host Greyhounds improved to 2-1.
Cooper's 18 points were coupled with four assists, while sophomore
Jaylon Sanders followed with 15 points and three assists. Off the bench, freshman Devin Moore just missed earning his first career double-double, tallying 12 points and nine rebounds. Marquavous Jones also scored 11 off the bench, his second consecutive game in double figures.
Freshman Terry Joyner also provided nine points in 33 minutes of action, adding three rebounds, two blocks and a pair of steals.
Five Greyhounds paced ASU Mid-South to the win, highlighted by a whopping 29-point effort from Christian Thompson and a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double from Braxtyn McCuien. Jesse Washington also scored 19 points, followed by 18 off the bench from Kyrin Dock.
Northwest shot 49 percent from the floor, compared to a 53 percent effort from the Greyhounds. ASU Mid-South also shot 46 percent from beyond the arc, compared to 35 percent from the Rangers.
