Volleyball Earns First Win With Split at Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Sophomore Kapria Manning posted a career-high 20 kills and 11 digs, as Northwest earned its first victory of the season, a 3-1 decision at Henderson State JV on Sunday afternoon.

After the Lady Rangers' second scheduled opponent, Lyon College, canceled its appearance at HSU, the Lady Rangers and Lady Reddies squared off again after the win, with Henderson State claiming 2-0 win in a shortened, three-set match.

In addition to Manning's big day, sophomore libero Kamryn Conner also posted 10 digs, while Julissa Soto totaled 13 kills. Additionally, Taylor Smith finished with two aces and India Jeffries posted a team-best four blocks.

Henderson State claimed a close victory in the opening set, only for Northwest to come out and stun the Reddies with a dominating 25-10 performance in the second set.

There would also be no third set letdown for the Lady Rangers in this one, as Northwest once again left the hosts scrambling in a 25-10 third set win, taking a 2-1 match lead.

Henderson State drew a little closer in the fourth set, but nothing could stop the Lady Rangers' momentum, as Northwest closed things out for a deserved 3-1 triumph.

Other notable stats from the victory included five kills from Jeffries, eight digs each from Smith and Soto, 22 assists from Alexia Davis and 16 assists from Lia Ramos.

Although the second match proved to be a close contest between both teams, it was the hosts who came out ahead in Sunday's finale, as Northwest fell 2-0.

Manning posted a team-best six kills in the second matchup, while Conner led with 12 digs.

Ramos led the Lady Rangers with 10 assists and a block. Chariah Mabry also added a block, along with a pair of kills.

Northwest (1-6) returns to the Magnolia State on Friday, as the Lady Rangers are slated to travel to Itawamba to take on the Lady Indians after a neutral-site match with Coastal Alabama-South. Both matches are scheduled for 3 P.M. and 5 P.M. start times from Fulton.
