FULTON - Friday wasn't the best day for the Northwest volleyball program, as the Lady Rangers were swept in a pair of 3-0 losses to Itawamba and an unbeaten Coastal Alabama-South squad.
Sophomore libero
Kamryn Conner combined for 26 digs in the two matches, while
Kapria Manning posted 16 kills on the afternoon.
With the losses, Northwest fell to 1-8 on the season and 0-1 against Region 23 foe Itawamba. The Lady Rangers will have a short turnaround, traveling to Ullin, Ill. tomorrow for a pair of matches at Shawnee Community College and Harris-Stowe State.
Coastal Alabama-South 3, Northwest 0
(Set scores: 21-25, 23-25, 15-25)
Northwest gave an undefeated Coastal Alabama-South team all it could handle, as the Sun Chiefs narrowly won the first two sets, only to pull away toward the end to take the third and final set by a 10-point margin.
Manning led the Lady Rangers with 16 kills, followed by seven from
Julissa Soto and five from
Chariah Mabry. Additionally, Conner posted 13 digs with Soto adding seven more.
Northwest finished with eight blocks, with Mabry and Sidney Sides accounting for half of that total.
Itawamba 3, Northwest 0
(Set scores: 11-25, 20-25, 9-25)
In a highly anticipated rematch from last season's region qualifying match, it was Itawamba who got the first victory on its home court, as the Lady Indians rolled through three sets.
Northwest got off to a slow start in the opening set, only to rally back for a back-and-forth battle in the second set. However, Itawamba went up 6-0 to begin the third set and never looked back, rolling to a 25-9 clincher.
Like the first match, Conner once again totaled 13 digs, while Soto finished with eight. Mabry led in kills and total blocks, earning seven and three, respectively.
