Enriquez Notches Hat Trick as Lady Rangers Defeat Copiah-Lincoln

SENATOBIA - Just one day after being named the MACCC's Offensive Player of the Week, Northwest midfielder Jennifer Enriquez made a strong case to repeat for that award, earning a three-goal hat trick as the Lady Rangers earned a 5-2 win against Copiah-Lincoln on Wednesday afternoon.

A freshman from Las Cruces, N.M., Enriquez moved into the top spot as the team's leading scorer, earning five goals and four assists on the season. Her efforts helped the Lady Rangers remain unbeaten at 3-0 overall, while Copiah-Lincoln fell to 0-1.

An early goal from Taylor Ford in the seventh minute put the Lady Wolves on the board first, but Northwest responded less than two minutes later, as M.J. Loeffel connected with Enriquez to tie the match at 1-1.

Less than two minutes later, the Lady Rangers struck again, this time on a goal from Loeffel and an assist from Melinda Hernandez. For Loeffel, the score marked her fourth goal of the season and her first score since earning three against Blue Mountain a week earlier, as Northwest stretched its lead to 2-1.

Neither team was able to score for the next 19 minutes, until Ford once again delivered for Co-Lin, tying the match in the 29th minute. However, a hard foul in the box set up a penalty kick goal from Enriquez less than five minutes before halftime, giving Northwest a slim 3-2 advantage at the break.

Northwest began to pull away from the Lady Wolves shortly into the second half, as another foul led to a yellow card for Co-Lin, allowing Hernandez to knock in the ensuing goal for a 4-2 lead in the 53rd minute.

Enriquez would add her third and final goal in the 75th minute, thanks to an assist from Ally Bailey, all but sealing the victory for Northwest.

Northwest outweighed the Lady Wolves in total shots (29-11), shots on-goal (16-5) and in corner kicks (14-8). Alexandra Moon tallied 11 saves for Co-Lin, while Maggie Olive netted three in the win, running her season record to 3-0 as well.

With the win, Northwest turns its sights to Friday, September 3, as the Lady Rangers host Southwest Tennessee at 1 P.M. Live stats and broadcast will be provided for the match, which will take place once again at the Senatobia Sports Park.
