WESSON - A pair of second half goals helped the
James Beattie era get off to a winning start on Friday afternoon, as Northwest earned a 3-0 triumph at Copiah-Lincoln.
Northwest dominated the Lady Wolves in nearly every offensive category, including total shots (29-4) and shots on goal (15-1).
Freshman
Eliza Olive broke a scoreless tie in the 16th minute, as she took a feed from
Katelyn Rock past the Copiah-Lincoln goalkeeper for a 1-0 first half lead.
Northwest had several other close shots throughout the match, but failed to punch anything into the net until the 85th minute, when
Kathryn Langston connected with
Molly Rose on a shot that pushed the lead to 2-0.
Rock then provided the icing on the cake in the 89th minute, as a shot from
Miranda Loeffel bounced back to
Ally Bailey, who then quickly fed Rock for the sophomore midfielder's first goal of the season.
It was a quiet day for the Northwest goalkeepers, as the Lady Wolves got only one shot on goal.
Maggie Olive started the first half and earned the game's only save, while
Trinity Baynham held down things in the second half.
Northwest improved to 1-0 on the season and will return south on Monday for a 1 P.M. matchup at Southwest Mississippi. Live stats will be available to follow for that match.
