No. 2 Holmes Edges Northwest Despite Second Half Surge

RIDGELAND - Trailing 3-0 with just over 10 minutes remaining, Northwest put the second-ranked Holmes Lady Bulldogs on their toes late in a narrow 3-2 loss on Monday afternoon.

Katelyn Rock's corner kick in the 79th minute found the foot of Ally Bailey, who tapped it in for the Lady Rangers' first goal and Bailey's sixth of the season. Northwest kept the tempo up as the clock counted down and a late goal from Cody Dowell as time expired gave the Lady Rangers a one-goal loss.

For Holmes, the Lady Bulldogs got on the board in the fifth minute of the match, thanks to a pass from Mackenzie Thompson that connected with Laney Smith. Ravynne Wilson followed with a goal in the 32 minute that put Northwest into a 2-0 halftime deficit.

Megan Richardson's goal in the 61st minute helped Holmes to the 3-0 lead prior to the late comeback from the Lady Rangers.

Holmes took a whopping 39 shots in the contest, with 23 landing on-goal. Northwest had six of its 10 shots count for on-goal attempts.

Sophomore Maggie Olive earned 15 saves in a 78-minute span of the match, before Trinity Baynham acquired five saves of her own with no goals allowed in the final 12 minutes and change.

Carly Williams and Kennedi Richardson evenly split the first and second halves in the net for Holmes, with both players earning two saves apiece.

Northwest (4-3, 2-2 MACCC) will host East Central on Friday, April 29 at 1 P.M., beginning the second and final leg of division competition.
