BOAZ, Ala. - Despite a pair of closely-contested first sets, Northwest was unable to fully take control in either one of its matches on Monday afternoon, as the Lady Rangers were swept by Snead State and 20th-ranked Wallace State-Hanceville by a pair of 3-0 decisions.
Kapria Manning totaled 19 kills and 17 assists on the afternoon, followed by 21 digs from
Julissa Soto and 20 assists from
Allison Greene.
Northwest fell to 1-4 on the season with the losses. The Rangers will resume play on Friday, February 5 in a twinbill against Itawamba and Gadsden State in Fulton.
Snead State 3, Northwest 0
(Set scores: 21-25, 18-25, 12-25)
Throughout a back-and-forth opening set, Northwest remained in striking distance and eventually gained a 20-17 lead, prompting a Snead State timeout.
That timeout was enough to swing the momentum back in the direction of the Lady Parsons however, as Snead State rattled off six consecutive points to take a 23-20 advantage, eventually taking the first set by a 25-21 margin.
Snead State pulled away from the Lady Rangers midway through the second set, turning a slim 12-11 lead into a 21-14 advantage. Although Northwest fought back to close the gap, the Lady Parsons came away with the second set.
With the Lady Rangers on the ropes, Snead State ran away with the third and final set to clinch the match and successfully defend its home court.
Manning led Northwest with 12 kills and 11 digs, followed by 17 digs from Soto and 10 digs from
Kamryn Conner.
#20 Wallace State-Hanceville 3, Northwest 0
(Set scores: 21-25, 18-25, 14-25)
Playing out in a similar fashion as the first match, Northwest battled closely with Wallace State-Hanceville in the first set and most of the second set, before the Lady Lions overpowered the Lady Rangers in the third and clinching set.
Manning and Soto combined for seven kills, while Conner and Soto led with five digs and four digs, respectively.
