Rangers Break Century Mark in Thursday Home Victory

SENATOBIA - Nearly everyone on the roster finished in the scoring column for Northwest on Thursday evening, as the Rangers scored a 109-62 rout of Faith Prep Academy at Howard Coliseum.

Seven Rangers finished in double figures, led by 17 points from freshman Kareem Thompson in his home debut. T.J. Hannah also notched 14 points, while Quen Kyles earned a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Faith Prep battled with Northwest in the early goings, only for the Rangers to pull away over the course of the final 10 minutes of the first half. Behind a strong performance from the reserve unit, Northwest rolled to a comfortable 53-24 lead at the break.

No second half letdown was in store for the Rangers, as Northwest opened the second half with a thunderous dunk from Isaiah Gaines, one of many on the evening. The Rangers continued to pull further away throughout the second half, outscoring Faith Prep 56-38.

Northwest shot 45 percent from the floor and 30 percent from beyond the arc, while earning 60 points in the paint. The Rangers also outscored Faith Prep 30-7 in points off turnovers, 23-2 in second chance points and 30-12 in transition.

Additionally, Northwest also totaled 57 rebounds, 17 steals and eight blocks on the evening.

Behind leading performances from Hannah, Kyles and Thompson, Northwest also picked up double-digit scoring efforts from Cori Bell (12 points), Gaines (11 points), Joseph Cooper (10 points) and Kavonte Tunstall (10 points). Freshman Zandon Haralson also provided nine points off the bench.

With the win, Northwest remained unbeaten with a 4-0 record to start the season, the Rangers' best start since a 5-0 mark during the 2017-18 season. Up next is a road trip to Meridian on Monday, November 15 at 8 P.M. That game can be seen live on mcceagles.com.

Northwest will return home Thursday, November 18 for a non-conference contest with Mississippi Delta. That game is slated for a 6 P.M. tipoff from Howard Coliseum, with live broadcast coverage on Ranger TV (nwccrangers.com/watch) and Facebook Live.
