GADSDEN, Ala. - Fresh off a competitive doubleheader at Pearl River and Coastal Alabama-East that resulted in the first program win, Northwest faced off against another tough team at Gadsden State Monday evening, falling 3-1 in the match.
Gadsden State claimed the opening set 25-19, before the Rangers rallied for a 25-22 second set victory. Despite the added momentum for Northwest, the Cardinals roared back to take the final two sets, 25-17 and 25-16, clinching the match.
Kapria Manning led the way with 12 kills and three blocks for Northwest.
Alexia Davis also posted three blocks and 17 assists, while
Elizabeth Perkins and
India Jeffries earned two blocks apiece.
Kamryn Conner also finished with 18 digs and two aces, followed by 12 digs from
Julissa Soto.
For Gadsden State, Cameron Lovell led the team with 13 kills, eight digs and four aces. Joanie Lang also had 22 digs to lead the Cardinals.
Northwest fell to 1-2 on the season with the loss, while Gadsden State improved to 1-0. Following yesterday's cancellation of the Pensacola State Tournament, the Rangers will have a full week off before resuming action on Monday, February 1 in a doubleheader at Snead State and against Wallace State-Hanceville.
