COLUMBUS – Northwest sophomore
Madison Crosby has earned the chance to continue her academic and athletic career at the four-year level after recently committing to MUW.
During her two seasons in Senatobia, Crosby compiled a .322 career batting average with 12 doubles, five triples, three home runs and 36 RBIs. Despite a shortened sophomore campaign, the Oxford native batted .368 with eight RBIs and a .605 slugging percentage.
Crosby's five career triples ties her with three other Rangers (
Vicki Johnson, Carlie Jenkins, Alex Barrett) for the most in program history.
As a freshman, Crosby was one of only two players to start in all 43 contests in the 2019 season and finished as one of the team's top three hitters, batting .309 with 10 doubles, three triples, two homers and 28 RBIs. She also proved to be just as dangerous on the bases, stealing nine bags on 11 attempts.
"My favorite (Northwest) memory will always be that last series we played as a team," Crosby said. "We all came together and fought hard for two games to sweep our first and only home series against a really competitive Pearl River squad. I am excited to play for The W but I will miss all the great teammates and people I have met here."
Off the field, Crosby also was a consistent selection to the President's and Vice President's lists, while also garnering Distinguished Academic All-MACJC and NJCAA All-Academic honors following her freshman season.
Crosby becomes the third member of the 2020 Northwest softball team to sign or commit to the four-year level, joining
Delta Claire Newman (Millsaps) and
Lacey Coats (Delta State).
Known athletically as The W, Mississippi University for Women competes in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). The Lady Owls posted a 9-7 overall record before the cancellation of the remaining 2020 season.
