Lady Rangers Shutout in Home Setback

SENATOBIA – Despite remaining well within striking distance at the start of the second half, Northwest saw Jones College score back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart as the visiting Lady Bobcats pulled away for the 3-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon.

Northwest fell to 2-8 on the season with the non-division loss as Jones moved to 6-5 overall.

Northwest held its own against an aggressive offensive attack but Jones would ultimately deny the Lady Rangers a first half shutout, as Odalys Garcia connected with Esmeralda Figueroa in the 39th minute for a 1-0 advantage at the break.

Anna Crane added to the Lady Bobcats' lead in the 65th minute and less than two minutes later, Emily Riley netted her third goal of the season off a feed from Olivia Simpson, pushing the Northwest deficit to 3-0.

Jones held a 12-5 shot advantage at halftime but the difference swelled in the second half, as Northwest was held to just one shot over the final 45 minutes for a 25-6 margin.

Maggie Olive totaled 10 saves over 73 minutes of action, her third career match with 10 or more saves. Trinity Baynham closed out the final 17 minutes for Northwest, collecting six stops.

Northwest will take another extended break before returning to MACJC North Division action against Hinds on Tuesday, October 1 at 1 p.m.
