Box Score MERIDIAN – In a rare Saturday afternoon twinbill, the Northwest soccer programs fell by a pair of 2-0 finals against Columbia State and Oxford-Emory in the Rush Invitational, hosted by Meridian Community College.
In the women's matchup, Northwest surrendered a goal to Columbia State in the first half but remained within striking distance, trailing just 1-0 at the break. The Lady Chargers would add another goal later in the second half, however, cementing a 2-0 defeat of the Lady Rangers.
Oxford-Emory scored both of its goals in the first half of the men's matchup, adding the first strike in the 33rd minute off a penalty kick goal from Luke Sims. Parker Morford added the second and final goal of the contest just before halftime, thanks to an assist from Will Ball.
Northwest was outshot 14-7 for the match and 5-2 on goal.
With the losses, Northwest dropped to 1-7 in men's action and 2-7 on the women's side. Both teams will resume action on Tuesday, September 24 against Jones College at 1/3 p.m. in Senatobia. Live stats availability will return for Tuesday's match and can be accessed at nwccrangers.com.
