TULLAHOMA, Tenn. – Freshman goalkeeper
Trinity Baynham collected double digit saves for the second time in her young college career but Northwest came up empty-handed on the road, falling 3-0 at Motlow State on Saturday night.
Northwest dropped to 0-2 on the season with the loss, while Motlow State improved to 1-0.
Motlow State came out firing from the opening whistle, eventually striking first 18 minutes in on a feeder from Alexandria Rouse to Emily Vallejo. The host Lady Bucks outshot Northwest 18-3 in the first half, providing Baynham with all 10 of her saves within the first 45 minutes.
Much like the first half, it didn't take long for the home team to add to its lead in the second half, as Vallejo hooked up with Ayline Mateos on a kick that found the upper left side of the net. Vallejo would then score again just over a minute later, giving Motlow State the 3-0 advantage just five minutes into the second half.
Northwest dialed up more shots as the second half progressed but the Lady Rangers would ultimately finish with just six on the evening, three on goal.
Motlow State finished the night with a 28-6 shot advantage, 16-3 on goal. Northwest was also whistled for seven fouls, nearly all occurring in the second half.
Northwest will set its sights on MACJC North Division competition next Friday, as the Lady Rangers travel to Hinds for a 5 P.M. kick. Live stats will be available through nwccrangers.com.
