COVINGTON, Tenn. – Despite a strong second half effort from Northwest, Dyersburg State denied the Lady Rangers a season-opening victory with a 4-3 win on Thursday evening.
Northwest fell to 0-1 to start the season, while the host Lady Eagles improved to 1-0.
Freshman
Ally Bailey got her Northwest career started off right, scoring the first of her two goals in the 13th minute. A penalty kick goal from Dyersburg State's Madison Luttrell in the 30th minute tied the match at 1-1.
After Dyersburg State went ahead 2-1 on Maddie Ray's goal in the 61st minute, the Lady Rangers responded as
Mallory Jones connected with Bailey to tie the match in the 66th minute.
Northwest again found some offensive magic in the 73rd minute, as
Katelyn Rock found
Precious Dennis to put the Lady Rangers back on top. Luttrell made sure the lead would be short-lived, however, adding back-to-back goals in less than four minutes for the hat trick and the win.
Northwest was outshot 14-4 in the first half but turned up the intensity to outshoot Dyersburg State 16-12 in the final 45 minutes.
Trinity Baynham netted 11 saves in her first collegiate start while Lilyan Williams collected nine for the Lady Eagles.
Northwest resumes regular season action on Saturday, August 24 at Motlow State at 3 p.m. Live stats will be available through nwccrangers.com.
