SENATOBIA – Sophomore right-hander
Carson Stinnett will be the latest member of the Northwest baseball team to join the Division I ranks, joining the University of Memphis as a walk-on next season.
"He was an absolute blessing to have in our program," Northwest head coach
Mark Carson said. "He was such a major contributor for our rotation and provided us with a very valuable arm that won some big games for us. His character and work ethic will be the reason why he will be so successful at Memphis. He's an absolute winner."
A 6-foot-2, 195-pound product of Oxford HS, Stinnett joined the program after spending his freshman campaign with Hinds. Along with brother Parker, the Stinnett duo became two of the Rangers' primary options on the mound this season, with Carson seeing most of his starts in midweek doubleheaders.
Stinnett finished his lone season with Northwest with a perfect 7-0 record and 52 strikeouts against 19 walks. His longest outing of the season came in an 8-2 road victory at East Mississippi, where he tossed eight complete innings with six strikeouts, while his best performance was a 10-strikeout effort in a 4-1 road win at Southwest Tennessee.
Stinnett is the sixth Ranger to sign or commit to a Division I program, joining the Ole Miss duo of
Hayden Leatherwood and
Ben Van Cleve,
Tanner Leggett (Mississippi State) and current teammate
Reed Harding (Memphis).
