BOONEVILLE – After helping Northwest to a No. 16 national ranking and a 4-0 week with sweeps against Holmes and 18th-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast, freshman outfielder Hammer Franks has been selected as the MACJC Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday morning.

Franks went 8-for-16 for the week, driving in seven runs with three homers, a double and a walk. The Mooreville product had a similar output the week prior, going 8-for-12 to guide the Rangers to a sweep of East Mississippi and Southwest Mississippi.

Franks also picked up his second career save in the nightcap against Gulf Coast, helping the Rangers out of a two-out bases loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh.

With less than a month remaining in the regular season, Franks is batting .333 with three triples, a team-high seven home runs, .690 slugging percentage and 32 RBIs. On the mound, he has made six relief appearances and recorded two saves with nine strikeouts.

Winners in 11 of its last 12 contests, Northwest will look to stay hot against Coahoma on Wednesday, April 10 at 3/6 p.m from Jim Miles Field. Live stats and video for both games will be available at nwccrangers.com.
