Northwest Breaks Century Mark in Win Against Faith Prep

SENATOBIA – Milton McGee, Jr. and Tomias Brand combined for 27 and 24 points apiece as Northwest scored a season-high 106 points in a 106-72 victory against Faith Prep on Wednesday evening.

Northwest raced out to a 10-0 lead in the first two and a half minutes of the contest, quickly burying Faith Prep into a 25-4 deficit with 10:55 left in the first half.

Faith Prep would find its footing over the course of the final 10 minutes however, embarking on a 12-4 run that was highlighted by a pair of three-pointers from Collin Maclin to cut the Rangers' lead to 29-16.

Despite the newfound momentum from the Warriors, the Rangers' advantage never dipped below double digits in the half. The Warriors would get as close 12 off a late layup with less than a minute to go, but a pair of Mario Fenner, Jr. free throws sent Northwest into the locker room with a 14-point advantage, 49-35.

Faith Prep stuck around for the opening minutes of the second half but a pair of back-to-back layups from McGee helped push the Rangers to a 20-point advantage, 66-46, with 12:38 left.

Northwest never took its foot off the pedal the rest of the way, swelling the lead to 30 off a jumper from Brand and a follow-up fast break dunk from Brand that put the Rangers at 100 for the first time this season.

Brand finished shy of a double-double, pulling down nine boards in the win. Richards also came close to a double-double, scoring eight points with eight assists. Fenner contributed 11 points as well for the Rangers.

Faith Prep was paced by 30 points from Q. York and a pair of 12-point efforts from Maclin and Markell Jones.

Northwest shot 51 percent from the floor on the night and 73 percent from the free-throw line. The Rangers were also helped by 60 points off the bench.

With the win, the Rangers improve to 5-1 on the season. Northwest will resume action against Tennessee Prep on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. from Howard Coliseum.
