Cheyenne Smith scored four first-half goals and sophomore goalkeeper
Angel Hailey posted double digit saves for the fifth time of her career as Northwest knocked off East Central 4-2 in the north division opener for both teams on Wednesday.
Northwest improved to 3-2, 1-0 in the north while EC fell to 1-4 and 0-1 in division play.
The match got off to a fast start, with three goals in the opening 5:42.
Smith got the scoring started in the 4th minute off an
Autumn Harra assist and added her second goal 1:35 later from
Presley Farr.
Ali Grace Walker cut the deficit in half for East Central in the 6th minute before Smith netted two more goals in the 15th and 43rd minutes. Hailey was credited with her first career assist after a long kick from the box.
Northwest was able to hold its 4-1 advantage midway through the second half until Macey Spencer took a rebound shot from Hayden Sullivan and scored to make it a 4-2 final.
Both teams finished with 20 shots apiece. Thirteen of EC's shots came in the second half.
Hailey had 11 stops for Northwest between the posts and Jordan Havens had 10 for the Lady Warriors.
Northwest will host Itawamba on Friday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. in a match that was originally scheduled for Fulton. The teams have switched dates due to weather concerns and the Lady Rangers will now travel to ICC on October 9.
