Lady Rangers Suffer 2-0 Setback vs Hinds

JACKSON – Northwest gave up an early goal on a bad bounce and could never get into an offensive rhythm in a 2-0 loss to Hinds at Millsaps' Harper Davis Field on Tuesday.

The match was moved from Raymond and was played at 10:30 a.m. on Millsaps' all turf field. It was an earlier than normal start time and humid temperatures played a significant factor in the Lady Rangers' defeat.

Hinds, who snapped a 17-match losing streak, improved to 1-3 (1-1 north) while Northwest fell to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in division play.

Michelle Reid's free kick from almost 35 yards out took a hard bounce on the turf and nearly over the head of Angel Hailey who had no chance on Leighton Anderson's rebound shot for a 1-0 Hinds lead in the 15th minute.

Makenzie Ellis subbed in and played the final 29:19 between the posts in the first half, finishing with a save and no goals allowed.

Northwest's best chance at an equalizer came in the 30th minute, but Landyn Hoover's rocket shot sailed high over the crossbar.

Anderson and Reid connected again for Hinds in the 58th minute to give the Lady Eagles a 2-0 lead. Anderson's shot from the left wing was originally saved by Hailey, but it snuck into the back of the net for a goal.

Cheyenne Smith and Maisy Cooper had good chances in the 60th and 62nd minutes but couldn't capitalize.

Hinds outshot Northwest 17-7 for the match and held the Lady Rangers to just three shots-on-goal.

Northwest will welcome unbeaten and No. 13 Holmes to Senatobia on Friday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
