Mark Hogan and the Rangers picked up their first victory of the 2018 season on Friday, using a pair of goals from freshmen
Eric Izaguirre and
Joseph Hayes to defeat Andrew College 2-1.
Northwest improved to 1-3 on the season while Andrew fell to 1-2.
Izaguirre put the Rangers on the board in the 24th minute for his first collegiate goal off a
Jose Orduna assist.
Northwest held the one-goal advantage into the break and quickly made it 2-0 just 5:54 into the second half when Hayes connected on his second goal of the season from
Jack Dowe.
Andrew College turned up its attack in the game's final 40 minutes and out-shot Northwest 16-7.
The Fighting Tigers finally capitalized with 35 seconds to play, using an unassisted effort from Ta'riq Davis to avoid the shutout.
The teams combined for 22 fouls on the afternoon and a pair of yellow cards.
Tim Houston earned his first victory between the posts with 11 saves, tying his season-high.
Northwest will open north division play on Wednesday, Sept. 5 when they welcome East Central to town.
