Rangers Wrap up Grueling 12-game Road Trip with Sweep at Southwest Mississippi

SUMMIT – Kyle Moore and Nathan Harrison each logged quality starts, Brant Blaylock was a combined 7-for-9 with three home runs and 10 RBIs and Northwest closed out a grueling 12-game road trip with a sweep Saturday afternoon at Southwest Mississippi by 9-3 and 11-1 finals.

Northwest improved to 19-9 overall and 9-5 in MACJC play, finishing the road trip 9-3 with four sweeps.

The Rangers will now play their next 10 at Jim Miles Field over the ensuing three weeks, beginning with Tuesday's doubleheader against 11th-ranked Itawamba on nwccrangers.com/watch.

Game 1 – Northwest 9, Southwest 3

Moore took the mound with a 3-0 lead in the first and proceeded to throw his best game of his sophomore season. Multi-hit games from Blaylock, Justin Milam and Ben Van Cleve helped the Rangers cruise to a 9-3 game one win.

Northwest extended its lead to 5-0 in the third, using Blaylock's RBI-double and a Will Brooks RBI-single, and it was 7-1 Rangers after four thanks to RBIs from Tanner Leggett and Blaylock.

Moore (2-1) scattered seven hits and just one run in six strong innings, making way for Reed Harding to throw the final three and pick up his third career save. It was Moore's first win since Feb. 9 after six no-decisions.

Brendon Baker (2-3) allowed seven runs on seven hits and threw 110 pitches in just five frames to take the loss.

Milam's RBI-single in the seventh and Blaylock's leadoff homer in the eighth put the finishing touches on the Bears.

The Rangers had 11 hits, paced by Blaylock's 3-for-5 game with a homer and four RBIs.

Game 2 – Northwest 11, Southwest 1 (6 inn.)

Northwest made quick work of the Bears in the finale, using hits from eight different Rangers and plating six runs in the third to pick up an 11-1 run-rule victory in six innings.

Harrison (3-1) picked up his second straight win in his second career start, scattering four hits, one run and three strikeouts in five innings. Cody McGarrity tossed a scoreless sixth.

Blaylock's two-run homer in the first put the Rangers on the board early before a six-run third quickly made it 8-0. Back-to-back walks to Dakota Dailey and Leggett to start the inning made way for Blaylock's RBI-double, Grant McMinn's RBI-single, Brooks Boolos' RBI-groundout and Hunter White's sac fly.

Southwest scored its lone run in the fourth on Isaiah Davis' RBI-single.

Back-to-back singles by Dailey and Leggett in the sixth paved the way for Blaylock's third home run of the day and 13th of the season to end the game early.
