SENATOBIA – Just like the first meeting in Goodman three weeks ago, Northwest needed all 40 minutes to beat the Holmes Lady Bulldogs.
Chrissah Shaw hit a go-ahead layup with 22 seconds left for two of her team-high 21 points,
Emily Bush added a career high 10 off the bench and Northwest escaped with a 71-70 win to sweep the season series.
In a back-and-forth, physical affair all night long, the teams exchanged 27 leads and were tied 14 times. Holmes' largest lead was six, while the Lady Rangers led by as many as five in the second quarter.
Tied at 67-all with 1:30 to play, Kamelia Lacy hit the first of two free throws to give Holmes a one point lead before Mercades Ward, who beat Holmes on a buzzer-beater Jan. 20, scored on the other end to make it 69-68 Lady Rangers.
Back-to-back turnovers allowed Lacy and the Lady Bulldogs to go back in front, 70-69, with 38 seconds left and Northwest called timeout to advance the ball to mid-court and possibly draw up a game-winner.
Ciara Pettis drove to the lane, made contact with a defender and dished it off to Shaw at the last minute, who made the layup to make it 71-70 Lady Rangers. The basket came with plenty of controversy, however, as Holmes argued it should've been called a charge and kept a one point lead.
Holmes had one final chance with seven seconds left, but Vaquela Pimpton's jumper rimmed out. After a scramble for the rebound, Shaw stole the ball from Pimpton and dribbled out the final seconds.
Behind Shaw's 21 points, her fourth 20-point outing of the season, Pettis added 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals and Bush chipped in 10 on a trio of 3-pointers.
Holmes was led by 25 from Lacy and a monster double-double from Nina Carpenter of 11 points, 21 rebounds and five blocks.
Northwest will now turn its attention to Mississippi Delta (2-14, 1-7 north) on Monday, Feb. 12, a 6 p.m. tipoff in Moorhead.
