SENATOBIA – After a tough road loss on Tuesday, the Northwest Lady Rangers rebounded in a big way on Thursday night, defeating Blue Mountain JV 90-43 at Howard Coliseum.
Northwest improved to 1-1 on the season with the victory, while the JV Lady Toppers fell to 1-3 overall.
Leading 23-12 after the end of the first period, the Lady Rangers slowly widened the gap over the remainder of the first half after outscoring the Lady Toppers 23-8 to take a 46-20 lead into halftime. Freshman
Tamarah Sykes led Northwest with 12 first half points.
Northwest would further increase the Lady Toppers' deficit in the second half, quickly pulling away even further to take a 61-32 advantage into the fourth and final period.
Emptying the bench, the Lady Rangers would go on to outscore Blue Mountain JV 29-11 over the final eight minutes to top off its home opener.
Sykes and
Ericka Richardson led Northwest with a pair of double-doubles, with Sykes finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds along with Richardson's 14 points and 19 rebounds.
Lindsay Hall also logged 10 points in the Lady Ranger victory.
Blue Mountain JV was led by Karly Wilburn (13) and Lequondrea Standifer (10). Mary Frances Robbins and Monesha Pegues totaled 13 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
Northwest will set its sights on Mississippi Gulf Coast on Friday, Nov. 9 at Howard Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
