SENATOBIA – A career-high 15 point performance from
Ciara Pettis, on 11-of-12 aim from the free throw line, helped lift Northwest to an 85-79 victory over Mississippi Delta on Thursday night at Howard Coliseum.
Northwest improved to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the MACJC North Division, while MDCC dropped to 1-10 and 0-2 in the north.
After falling behind 9-4 early in the first quarter, the Lady Rangers cut the lead down to two with a
Shelbi Buford three-pointer.
MDCC pushed the lead back up to three until a Pettis layup and a pair of
Chrissah Shaw free throws put Northwest ahead 18-17 at the end of the opening period.
Northwest managed to stretch the lead to as much as 10 points in the second quarter and led by eight, 42-34, at halftime.
Six points from Asiah Ward helped the Lady Trojans cut the lead down to two early in the second half, but the Lady Rangers responded with a pair of three-pointers from
Mercades Ward and
Kayla Bradley and an additional layup from Ward to push the lead back to eight.
Mississippi Delta was far from finished, however, and sliced the lead down to 66-63 to conclude the third quarter.
Two minutes into the fourth, a jumper from Lollis allowed MDCC to regain the lead for the first time, 67-66, since the early stages of the second quarter.
