DECATUR – Freshman
Taylor Williams' goal in the 81st minute broke a scoreless tie and redshirt freshman
Landyn Hoover added the final dagger in the 88th minute as Northwest picked up a huge, 2-0 road win at East Central on Friday.
"Our ladies fought hard for the win and the effort was there the whole match," head coach
Levi Nunnally said. "We struggled with possession in the first half and gave the ball away cheaply, but the second half was much better. East Central kept pressure on us the full 90 minutes and we handled it really well. It's a big road win for us."
Northwest improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in division play, while East Central fell to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the north.
ECCC outshot Northwest 20-10 for the match, with the trio of Ashley Langham, Haley Hutcherson and Aubree Patterson combining for 13 of the shots. But
Liv Nault denied the Lady Warriors a career-high 16 times to record a clean slate and improve to 2-2 between the posts.
With only two shots the first half, the Lady Ranger offense opened up in the second half and fired off eight shots before finally finding the go-ahead goal.
Addison Robinson found Williams for her third goal of the year and second career game-winner in the 81st minute. Hoover netted her second goal in the 88th minute off a
Gaby Villatoro assist, with her shot bouncing off the post and in for a 2-0 win.
Northwest will return to action on Wednesday (was Tuesday) at 2 p.m. at division-leading Itawamba.
