Lady Rangers Blank Hinds 4-0 to Snap Decade-Long Winless Streak

SENATOBIA – Three first half goals from three different Lady Rangers helped set the tone early, as Northwest ran away with a 4-0 victory over Hinds Friday to snap a decade-long winless streak against the Lady Eagles.

"It's great to finally get the monkey off our backs," head coach Levi Nunnally said. "I talked to our team about the streak before the match, to give them some extra motivation, and they responded with a big time win. I'm really pleased with our effort and hope to keep the momentum going in division play."

Northwest improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the north division with its fourth shutout win in six matches and first over Hinds since Oct. 6, 2006. The Lady Eagles fell to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the division.

Lauren Snyder put the Lady Rangers ahead for good in the fourth minute off an assist from Landyn Hoover, netting her first goal of the year and fifth of her career.

Carolyn Rials, off a double-assist from Angelica Justice and Taylor Williams on a corner kick, and Hoover (unassisted) would follow with goals in the 22nd and 39th minutes to make it a 3-0 advantage.

Northwest continued to put pressure on the Lady Eagles the final 45 minutes, finishing with a 15-7 edge in shots, and breaking through again in the 51st minute when Madison Thrasher scored off a Caitlan Dew assist.

The 4-0 cushion was more than enough for Angel Hailey between the posts, with the freshman picking up three saves in 61:13 to improve to 2-0 on the year. Makenzie Ellis played the final 28:47 and stopped two shots.

Northwest will travel to Perkinston next Friday, Sept. 22 in a rematch with Gulf Coast (3-3-1). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
