Northwest Celebrates Homecoming with 41-0 win over Mississippi Delta

SENATOBIA – Northwest scored touchdowns on six of its first seven possessions, and the Ranger defense held Mississippi Delta to 44 total yards, in a 41-0 rout of the Trojans on Homecoming Thursday night at Bobby Franklin Field.

Northwest won its 13th straight home game in improving to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the north, while MDCC remained winless on the year at 0-4 overall, 0-2 in the division.

Freshman Monta Thomas led a three-headed rushing attack with 87 yards on 11 carries, scoring the first two Ranger touchdowns from five and 23 yards out. Kevin Perkins added 100 yards and Quarderman Sloan chipped in 58 yards and two touchdowns as Northwest rolled up 442 total yards.

Jack Abraham completed 9-of-14 passes for 139 yards and two scores, including a six-yard touchdown pass to Jamario Dixon, the first of the sophomore's career, to give Northwest a comfortable 27-0 lead at the half.

Back-to-back scoring drives of 65 and 55 yards extended the Ranger lead to 41-0 with 9:11 to play in the third and Northwest put it on cruise control with a running clock the game's final 24 minutes.

Northwest's swarming defense gave MDCC quarterbacks Tyrique McAfee and Josha Belton fits all night, with the duo completing just 6-of-20 attempts for 29 yards and sacked twice.

The Trojans' longest play of the night was a 33-yard fake punt run by LaDaveon Smith. They would finish with 44 yards on 44 total plays.

Reserves Dee Rule and Jonathan Jones led the Rangers defensively, finishing with eight and seven tackles. D.J. Reed added two tackles, a forced fumble, sack and blocked field goal.

Northwest will travel to Goodman next Thursday night to face the undefeated and third-ranked Holmes Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0). The Rangers have won 13 of the last 14 meetings, including a 27-12 victory in Senatobia last season.
