Strong Second Half Lifts Lady Rangers to 3-0 Win over Meridian

SENATOBIA – Northwest used three second half goals from an assortment of Lady Rangers to take a 3-0 shutout victory in the season-opener against Meridian on Tuesday afternoon.

Both teams battled back and forth despite a scoreless first half, with Meridian holding a narrow 5-4 margin in shots. 

Northwest increased the tempo in the second half and hit the jackpot in the 52nd minute, as freshman Caitlan Dew booted a corner kick that set up sophomore Madison Thrasher's first collegiate goal and a 1-0 lead.

Freshman Mi'Chaela Prince gave the Lady Rangers some breathing room in the 78th minute, as the Southaven native beat the Meridian keeper to extend the advantage to 2-0.

Northwest then delivered the ultimate dagger in the 80th minute, as Dew connected with the head of freshman Taylor Williams on a corner kick to seal the Lady Rangers' victory.

Northwest outshot Meridian 14-9 (8-5 on goal) and finished ahead 17-9 in the final foul count.

Liv Nault collected three saves between the posts in the first half for the Lady Rangers and Angel Hailey went the rest of the way, finishing with two saves to pick up the win.
